When should you use debt management plans
By: Admin
If you find yourself too overwhelmed by the amount of debt that you have and wonder whether you should you use debt management plan to help, there are several things you need to understand first. Debt management plans (DMP), usually are recommended by a credit counseling agency. Once you start working with an agency and they feel your situation is more than what you can handle on your own, they would recommend DMP. Keep in mind that a DMP is not credit counseling, it is not for everyone.
Most people can put their finance under their own control with some planning and budgeting. And there are some people who do need outside help. It's just like hiring a home organizer who organizes your house. You should always seek help from a certified credit counselor first. He or she will spend time with you to review your overall financial situation and can offer customized plan to manage your money. A DMP can never replace a credit counselor.
If you still decide to sign up a DMP, you will have to deposit money with the credit counseling agency and let them use the money to pay your debts. Most people can do this once a financial plan has been worked out with a counselor. So you won't need a DMP.
